Our Story

From one newcomer's experience to a community movement

The Journey

How It Started

I moved abroad for university - busy with studying and part-time work, but spending weekends alone, googling basic questions at 2am, piecing together information from random WhatsApp groups and Reddit threads.

I didn't realize how isolated I'd become until people started showing up. Someone helped me get my first internship. Another connected me to my first job. People pointed me to housing. Strangers housed me and became friends.

Everything changed. I went from grey and flat to actually living.

I started Newcomers MK to give back what was given to me. Because every year, 2,500+ people move to Milton Keynes - and too many spend months struggling alone when they don't have to.

The Mission

Newcomers MK exists to make Milton Keynes immediately more welcoming for anyone who's just arrived. Whether you're coming for work, study, or a fresh start, we believe you deserve:

  • Real people to call when you have questions
  • Places to go that don't feel intimidating
  • A buddy who gets what you're going through
  • Practical workshops on the stuff that matters
  • A community that actually shows up

We're not formal. We're not complicated. We're just people who know what it feels like to be new—and we're committed to making sure nobody has to go through that alone.

What We Do

From workshops to meetups, buddy systems to community support - here's how we make Milton Keynes feel like home.

The Signpost

Trusted guidance, from people who've been there.

When you're new to Milton Keynes or even new to the UK, everything feels unfamiliar. The systems, the forms, the services… it can all feel overwhelming. That's why we created The Signpost, a simple, safe place to start. We've been through those same early challenges ourselves, and we've gathered what we learned into one easy, reliable guide. Everything here is designed to help you find the support you need quickly, confidently, and safely. You don't need to explain your story to anyone. You just need clear, trusted information all in one place.

What The Signpost Offers

The Signpost connects you to verified local organisations and services that can help with practical, everyday needs. Each recommendation is chosen with care, checked for accuracy, compassion, and safety. Our goal is simple: to help you find the right support, right away, without confusion or worry.
